working with your own dog. You will learn how to give a relaxation
massage and receive individual instruction from a professional therapist.

* Help your dog relax in stressful situations.

Please bring a blanket or pillow for your dog and a pillow for

Christina Hardinger is a certified canine massage practitioner and a
large and small animal acupressure therapist. Christina has worked
with more than 150 dogs over the past two years, helping dogs get
relief from issues ranging from dysplasia pain to anxiety. She is
often found at agility trials in Central Texas and has worked with
several rescues and dog trainers in the Austin area.

Dr. Ian Dunbar is a veterinarian, animal behaviorist, and writer. Dr. Dunbar received his veterinary degree and a Special Honors degree in Physiology & Biochemistry from the Royal Veterinary College (London University) and a doctorate in animal behavior from the Psychology Department at the University of California in Berkeley, where he spent ten years researching olfactory communication, the development of hierarchical social behavior, and aggression in domestic dogs.

Dr. Dunbar is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the International Society for Applied Ethology, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, the California Veterinary Medical Association, the Sierra Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (which he founded).

Dr. Dunbar joined the Society for Veterinary Ethology (now the International Society for Applied Ethology) over 35 years ago, at which time he was the only member specializing in dog and cat behavior problems. Later he was involved in the establishment of the American SVE (now the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior).

Dr. Dunbar has written numerous books, including How To Teach A New Dog Old Tricks, the Good Little Dog Book and a series of Behavior Booklets—separate educational booklets on each of the most common pet behavior problems. Additionally, Ian has hosted eleven videotapes on puppy/dog behavior and training, including SIRIUS® Puppy Training, Training Dogs With Dunbar and Every Picture Tells A Story. All his videos have won a variety of awards. The famous SIRIUS Puppy Training video (the first dog training video ever produced) remains the all-time best selling dog video. For three years running the SIRIUS® video has always been voted the #1 BEST DOG TRAINING VIDEO by the Association of Pet Dog trainers-the largest and most influential association of dog trainers in the world.

Before SIRIUS® Puppy Training Classes there were simply no puppy classes-Dr. Dunbar developed them in 1981. Dr. Mary Lee Nitschke, the principal of Animal School in Oregon, has divided dog training into "the push-pull pre-SIRIUS Dark Ages and the post-SIRIUS era of dog-friendly dog training."

Jean Donaldson, the author of The Culture Clash, summarizes the colossal effect of the SIRIUS video as follows. "SIRIUS Puppy Training is the video which changed dog training. It remains the best video on positive methods and early socialization available today. Some fields are lucky enough to be granted a giant: a figure whose contributions inspire awe and are unsurpassable. Ian Dunbar is that in dog behavior. There is no single person on the face of the planet to whom dog trainers and owners (not to mention dogs) owe more."

Certainly, the SIRIUS® Puppy Training video had a dramatic influence on the pet dog fancy, completely changing the way dogs are trained in a number of countries around the world. Dr. Dunbar's unique lure/reward, off-leash training techniques provided a delightful alternative to inane and inhumane leash jerking. In a sense, SIRIUS took the jerks out of training. SIRIUS techniques have been adopted and adapted by most thinking and caring dog trainers worldwide.

Dr. Dunbar was invited to develop and write (for over seven years) the American Kennel Club's Gazette "Behavior" column, which was voted Best Dog Column for a number of years in succession by the Dog Writers' Association of America.

In 1993, Dr. Dunbar founded the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) in the United States and organized the first two Annual Conferences. Dr. Dunbar's current project is the creation of the K9 GAMES®-an exciting spectator event featuring fast-moving, motivating, competitive games for dogs and owners. Dr. Dunbar's favorite claim to fame was his 1996 induction to the Dog Fancy Hall of Fame along with four of his heroes-James Herriot, Konrad Lorenz, Lassie, and Balto.

Ian has been lecturing to veterinarians and dog clubs for over thirty years. In fact, since 1986 he has conducted over 800 days of seminar and workshop for trainers and veterinarians around the world. There are very few educated trainers who have not been strongly influenced by Dr. Dunbar's fun & games, from-the-animal's-point-of-view, dog-friendly dog training.

Dr. Dunbar is peerless in his field; there is simply no other person who has Dr. Dunbar's qualifications, experience, and expertise in the realm of modern psychological dog training and behavior counseling-fields which Dr. Dunbar has played a major role in developing over the past 25 years.

Companion (5 months and up)-

Training your dog is a new experience for most of our students. We encourage family participation of all members 6 yrs. and older. Our Basic Companion Classes are a seven week course where you meet in our indoor classroom once a week on a specific day and at a specific time.Classes are limited to ten students with two instructors.

Agility-

Dog agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs generally run off-leash with no food or toys as incentives. The handler can touch neither dog nor obstacles. Consequently, the handler's controls are limited to voice, movement, and various body signals, requiring exceptional training of the animal.

I asked the parent of this happy dog, "Is he always like this?" She replies, "Yes, and it starts as soon as we turn onto this street."

This made me smile because it makes me know that what I am doing in my life is right. I love the fact that I can make dog's lives so much more enjoyable by doing what I do every day. It also makes me wonder, "What does your dog do when they know they are going to Hearts and Paws?"
