Club Pup Kids Camps 2012

This year we are adding more than ever before with more camps, more guest speakers, new games, more games, more activities, and most of all more fun!

The relationship of a child with their dog can teach so much about respect, discipline, communication and responsibility. Hearts and Paws Club Pup Camps create an atmosphere to:

Strengthen the relationship between the child and their dog.
Instruct how the dog’s mind perceives the world physically, mentally and emotionally.
Impart skills necessary to work with dogs as serious hobby or potential career.
Encourage Creativity, Problem Solving and Teamwork through group projects and games.

We have camps designed for campers from ages 6-9 years and 9-16 years old. We put teams together according to age with appropriate challenges.
A ratio of one counselor per 5 participants. Limit of 16 dog/handler teams.
Awesome Location for this Year
We have some fantastic news about Hearts and Paws and our new location for Agility classes and Club Pup Camps in 2011. These programs are moving over to the Vineyard Church facility on Anderson Mill Road. They have agreed to allow us to use some of their beautiful meeting rooms to host camps next year. They also agreed to allow us to construct a field that will be twice the size of our former field for both agility and camps (see picture on left). Come see the facility, the new field, and see what we've got going on for our camps for Summer 2011.

Below is information on our beginner Companion Camp, advanced Gameskills Camp, and our younger kids Small Paws Camp.

Companion Camp

Introductory Course for first time campers or those choosing to work with rescue dogs.
(Campers 9-16 yrs old)

Camp Includes:
  • Come explore your dog's five senses- Learn the different ways your dogs Ears, Eyes and especially Nose effect your dogs perceptions in daily life.
  • Teach your dog essential training skills- sit, down, stay, wait at doors, come when called, walking on a loose leash.
  • Introduction to All Agility Training Obstacles-A frame, Dog Walk, Jumps,Tunnels, Weave Poles, Chute and See Saw.
  • Learn how to keep your dog clean and healthy through brushing and bathing.
  • Understanding Human to Dog Body Language- Dog signals that show friendliness, fear, stress and relaxation and Human signals that will relax or stress dogs.
  • Discover and identify different Dog Breeds and Characteristics.
  • Perform fantastic tricks and show off your dog's style in our Costume & Trick Showcase.
  • Finally take how some of the camp with you in our creative Doggie Arts and Crafts, Camp Picture and Dog Safety Certificate.

Upon Completion Campers receive:
  • Certificate of Completion
  • Camp T-Shirt
  • Group Picture

Camp Cost:

  • One Week: $350.00
  • Two Weeks: $675.00

  • A $125 deposit per week is required to secure registration (non-refundable within 3 weeks of camp start unless slot can be filled). Balance is due two weeks before camp.

  • Returning Camper/Sibling receives an additional $25.00 discount per camp.

Camp Starts: 8 a.m.

Please let us know if you need to pick up earlier for an urgent reason. The afternoon activities are designed around team efforts and missing members effect the outcome.

Campers bring their own lunches. (Monday - Thursday)

Hearts and Paws will provide juice, water and healthy snacks for morning and afternoon breaks.

Hearts and Paws will provide pizza and soft drinks for lunch on Friday!

Gameskills Camp

For Campers who have completed the Companion Camp.
(Campers 9-16 yrs old)

2012 Gameskills Camp Dates:

June 18-22

July 9-13

Camp Includes:
  • Navigate your walking skills through the Water Relay, win it all at the Recall Doggie Race Track.
  • Persevere in the Down Stay Lifeline,
  • Use your knowledge to gain huge rewards in Dog Jeopardy,
  • Take your dog to the next level in Agility with the See Saw and closed Weaves.
  • At the camp with the biggest & best Agility Course- learn how to get your dog ready to win.
  • Go beyond the basics and learn tricks that are performed in the Movies.
  • Detective Scent Work- Teach your dog how to find hidden articles with his nose.
  • Work together as a team- win awesome prizes and rewards for performing with your canine companion.
  • Learn how to get your dog certified as a Canine Good Citizen.
  • Paw Trek Adventures- To boldly go where you and your dog have never gone before!

Small Paws Camp

(Half-day camp for campers 6-9 yrs old)

July 23-27

Camp Cost:

One Week- $250
A $100 deposit is required to secure registration (non-refundable within 3 weeks of camp start unless slot can be filled). Balance is due two weeks before camp.

Mandatory Interview for all camps!

Campers must have an interview with dogs, including rescue dog recipients and campers that have been to camppreviously.

This interview is to:
  • Assess the dogs temperament in a group**
  • Assess the dog’s physical ability to participate in the activities**
  • Discuss safe handling techniques and dog body language
  • Present equipment needs
  • Sign Medical Release Form

**If your personal dog is possibly not physically or socially suited for camp, we can arrange a rescue dog from a no-kill organization for your camper to train.**

If you are using a rescue or foster dog the interview must not exceed 2 weeks before the camp date.

We will notify you of interview times and dates after application and deposits are received by the 10th of April.

Interviews are usually held on Saturday afternoons in groups of six and take approximately an hour. Please try to schedule your interview as close to your camp date as possible. Dogs must be 6 months or older at the start of camp to participate.
